Keynote Speaker! Port Angeles Kayak Symposium, April 11-13, 2008
Port Angeles Kayak Symposium
- EXPLORING GLACIER BAY: (Gary Luhm) When Captain George Vancouver sailed into SE Alaska’s Icy Strait in 1794, it was choked with ice. To the
north was a ten-mile wide wall of 400 ft high ice – the entrance to Glacier Bay. By the time John Muir arrived in 1879, the glaciers had retreated
48 miles. Plant secession, sea mammals, birds and bears followed the retreating ice to create an exquisite laboratory – and a dream kayak destination.
Photographer Gary Luhm visited Glacier Bay National Park in three of the last six years, including two weeks in 2007. Travelling by kayak mothership,
he has paddled many of the Parks inlets and bays. Join Gary and explore Glacier Bay National Park’s impressive tidewater glaciers, plant communities
and wildlife. Where: Red Lion Hotel. Time: Sat. 7:00-8:30pm $5.
Gary will also be presenting "Kayak, Camera, Sea - Photography while Sea Kayaking" on Sunday, 4/13, 9:00-10:30pm, fee is $5.
Symposium admission is free, but attendee's will be asked to donate either $5
or non-perishable food items for the Port Angeles Food Bank.
A fee is charged for most of the individual
lectures and clinics. Plenty of kayaks will be available of testing.
The symposium is loaded with
knowledgeable, talented BCU and ACA kayak instructors: Les Uhrich, Bill
McKenzie, Mike Kennedy, Carol Asplund, Wayne Horodowich, Ken Campbell, Rhonda Schwab, Kirby Stevens, Dave Agnew, David Price and others.

August, 07 Canoe&Kayak: Portfolio
Canoe&Kayak magazine published a portfolio of my sea kayaking images, along with an inteview of me by Jeff Moag for the August, 2007 issue. Jeff mentions my use of a remote control, mostly for solo trip, which I've found very instrumental for getting useable kayaking images. I elaborate on this in the 10/07 photo tip.
